Soroptimist International - Weltweit und ganz nah

Soroptimist International (SI) ist eine der weltweit größten Service-Organisationen berufstätiger Frauen mit gesellschaftspolitischem Engagement.

Soroptimistinnen befassen sich mit Fragen der rechtlichen, sozialen und beruflichen Stellung der Frau und vertreten die Position der Frauen in der öffentlichen Diskussion.

Sie setzen sich ein für die Verbesserung der Lebensbedingungen für Frauen und Mädchen. Sie agieren lokal, regional, national und global.

Soroptimistinnen engagieren sich insbesondere für: 

·     den ungehinderten Zugang zu Bildung und Ausbildung für Frauen und Mädchen sowie Qualifizierung für Leitungsaufgaben

·     die wirtschaftliche Unabhängigkeit und dauerhafte Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten für Frauen

·     die Verhinderung jeglicher Gewalt gegen Frauen und Mädchen

·     die aktive Mitwirkung von Frauen bei der Lösung von Konflikten

·     den sicheren Zugang zu ausreichender Ernährung und Trinkwasser

·     die bestmögliche medizinische Versorgung von Frauen

·     die Beseitigung der Folgen von Klimawandel und Umweltkatastrophen unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Bedürfnisse von Frauen und Mädchen

Mit seinem weltweiten Netzwerk bietet SI den Mitgliedern ein Forum für den Austausch von Wissen und Erfahrungen. Bei den monatlichen Clubtreffen stehen Vorträge und Diskussionen zu gesellschaftspolitischen Themen im Mittelpunkt. Bei Clubtreffen und privaten Begegnungen entwickeln sich Freundschaften, die Soroptimistinnen ein Leben lang pflegen – weltweit und ganz nah.

Der Name „Soroptimist“ ist abgeleitet vom lateinischen sorores optimae und bedeutet so viel wie „beste Schwestern“. Die Mitglieder verstehen dies als Maßstab für ihr eigenes Verhalten im Leben und Beruf.

Soroptimist International hat weltweit in 132 Ländern rund 80.000 Mitglieder in über 3.000 Clubs. Es gibt vier Föderationen: Soroptimist International of the Americas, Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland, Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific und Soroptimist International of Europe (mit Afrika). Zu SI Europa gehören rund 1.300 Clubs mit rund 35.000 Mitgliedern in 58 Ländern.

Soroptimist International hat als Nichtregierungsorganisation (NGO) allgemeinen Konsultativstatus bei ECOSOC, dem Wirtschafts- und Sozialrat der Vereinten Nationen, und ist mit Repräsentantinnen bei folgenden UN-Unterorganisationen in New York, Genf, Wien und Paris vertreten: WHO, UNHCR, ECOSOC, UNIDO, ILO, UNEP, UNESCO und UNICEF.

 

Soroptimist International Deutschland

Soroptimist International Deutschland (SID) besteht derzeit aus 218 Clubs mit über 6.600 Mitgliedern in acht Bezirken. SID ist Mitglied im Deutschen Frauenrat, und viele Clubs sind in Landes- und örtlichen Frauenräten engagiert. Rund 1,5 Millionen Euro fließen jährlich dank des ehrenamtlichen Engagements von Soroptimistinnen in Deutschland in soziale Projekte im In- und Ausland. 

Die Präsidentin von Soroptimist International Deutschland für die Amtszeit 2021 bis 2023 ist Anne Dörrhöfer vom SI-Club Worms.

 

Soroptimist International - Worldwide and up close

Soroptimist International (SI) is one of the world's largest service organizations of working women with a socio-political commitment. Soroptimists deal with questions of the legal, social and professional status of women and represent the position of women in public discussion. They are committed to improving living conditions for women and girls. They act locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

Soroptimists are particularly committed to:

· Unrestricted access to education and training for women and girls, as well as qualification for leadership tasks

· Economic independence and sustainable employment opportunities for women

· The prevention of any violence against women and girls

· The active participation of women in the resolution of conflicts

· Safe access to adequate nutrition and drinking water

· The best possible medical care for women

· The removal of the consequences of climate change and environmental disasters, with particular attention to the needs of women and girls

With its worldwide network, SI provides members with a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience. The monthly club meetings focus on lectures and discussions on socio-political topics. At club meetings and private encounters, friendships develop that nurture soroptimists for a lifetime - worldwide and very close.

The name "soroptimist" is derived from the Latin sorores optimae and means something like "best sisters". Members understand this as a measure of their own behavior in life and work.

Soroptimist International has around 80,000 members in over 3,000 clubs worldwide in 132 countries. There are four federations: Soroptimist International of the Americas, Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland, Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific and Soroptimist International of Europe (with Africa). Soroptimist International Germany

Soroptimist International Germany (SID) currently consists of 218 clubs with over 6,600 members in eight districts. SID is a member of the German Women's Council, and many clubs are involved in state and local women's councils. Thanks to the voluntary work of soroptimists in Germany, about 1.5 million euros are invested in social projects in Germany and abroad each year.
